ASSEMBLYMAN THIELE: ENACTED STATE BUDGET INCLUDES FUNDING FOR CLEARY SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF

New York State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (I, D, WF-Sag Harbor) today announced that the 2020-21 enacted State Budget contains $500,000 of funding for the Cleary School for the Deaf, a 4201 school located in Nesconset. The Cleary School has served the deaf community of Long Island since 1925, and provides access to language, communication and learning for students from birth to 21 years of age. Cleary strives to prepare children who are deaf to become active and contributing members of society. The school partners with East Islip School District, which allows students to access a traditional school’s opportunities and resources, based upon each student’s individual needs.

Assemblyman Thiele said, “The Cleary School has become a vital resource to the students and families they serve across Long Island and within our East End community. I am so pleased that this well-deserved funding was included in the budget to assist the Cleary School in continuing their mission of equipping students with essential academic and life skills, and preparing them for a successful future.”

Assemblyman Michael J. Fitzpatrick (R,C,I- St. James) said, “Cleary School has been a source of pride and inspiration for the deaf community in Suffolk County since its founding by the Cleary Sisters in 1925. As a former trustee of the Cleary School, I am well aware of the value a Cleary School education has for a deaf or hard-of-hearing child. This funding will help the Cleary School Faculty and Administration continue to deliver the kind of education necessary to help this community succeed in life.”

Dr. Jacqueline Simms, Executive Director of the Cleary School, said, “Cleary School for the Deaf and the deaf community across Long Island owe a debt of gratitude to Assemblymember Thiele and his team. His interest and commitment to providing an exceptional education to deaf children is recognized and deeply appreciated by all who benefit from the services and programs offered at Cleary.”
