Binghamton University’s Southern Tier Clean Energy Incubator opens

The Office of Entrepreneurship & Innovation Partnerships at Binghamton University opened its Southern Tier Clean Energy Incubator building Wednesday.

The incubator currently has nine clients, including winners of the 76West Clean Energy Competition, which is a $20 million competition and support program administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.

Current clients include Suntegra (2017 76West winner), Imperium3 NY, AgZeit, Chromananotech (2016 76West winner), Dimensional Energy, Brash Engines, CCCV (2016 76West winner), Empower Equity and EthosGen (2017 76West winner).

The building, located at 120 Hawley Street in Binghamton, was announced by Governor Andrew Cuomo in October 2017 and is the first state-supported Clean Energy Incubator in the Southern Tier.

The building is open for use by 76West winners and other clean energy technology companies.

The incubator is funded by NYSERDA and is being managed by Binghamton University.

Alex Hagen, the Clean Energy Program Director, will oversee the day-to-day operations. The incubator is headed at the Koffman Southern Tier Incubator and also has offices at the Innovative Technologies Complex at Binghamton University.

The incubator will provide space, technical support and other assistance.

Clients can utilize the expertise and resources of Binghamton University, REV Ithaca Start-Up Works, IncubatorWorks, the New York Battery and Energy Storage Technology Consortium (NY BEST) and Northeast Clean Energy Council (NECEC) for support and resources to help entrepreneurs commercialize cutting-edge clean technologies.
