From baby formula to generators to bottled water, FedEx is stepping up to ship badly-needed humanitarian cargo to Puerto Rico and neighboring islands in concert with disaster relief groups working to help the hurricane-battered area.
In all, FedEx has shipped more than 1,500 tons of disaster relief cargo to Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria, with several hundreds of thousands more pounds expected to be delivered within the week.
The corporate citizenship efforts come on the heels of FedEx recently committing an additional $1 million in cash and transportation support to deliver critical medical aid and supplies to help communities recover after the devastating hurricane season as well as the earthquake in Mexico. The additional aid brought the company’s total commitment to $3 million in disaster relief over the past few weeks.
Here is a look at some of the FedEx disaster relief assistance:
FedEx Express revenue flights and delivery have resumed to Puerto Rico. Pickups are expected to start Wednesday in metro areas. A relatively small number of FedEx Express employees remain unaccounted for, many of whom are on leaves of absence.
For FedEx Freight, locations are open but with limited services. Some ocean shipments are experiencing delays.
Beyond Puerto Rico, revenue service has resumed in St. Thomas but not in St. Croix, where the airport is not expected to open for commercial flights until Thursday, Oct. 5.
