(WHAM) – An urgent care facility in Webster is teaming up with Rochester Institute of Technology to create face shields for medical personnel.
Acute Kids Urgent Care in Webster is a smaller clinic that has been running low on supplies. Since most of the masks and personal protective equipment is going to hospitals that are badly in need of it to protect workers against COVID-19, Acute Kids has been trying to hold out.
Chrysa Charno, who owns and operates the clinic, decided to reach out to RIT’s Center for Additive Manufacturing and Multifunctional Printing to see if they could come up with a solution.
Using 3D printing, RIT is able to create the face shields, which extends the life of a cloth face mask. The shields are cut from plastic sheets, and then hardened in an oven for 30 minutes to allow the plastic visors to curve.
Charno is a graduate of RIT.
