Siemens Painted Post Facility Making Protective Face Shields for Guthrie

PAINTED POST, N.Y. — By Caitlin Murphy  (WENY) — The Siemens facility in Painted Post is making 3,000 protective face shields and donating them to Guthrie.

On March 27, Guthrie reportedly inquired as to whether the facility could make the shields. Siemens officials say a team made up of workers from the Operations, Manufacturing and Supply Chain departments assembled to design and create the gear. A few days later, a prototype was made and approved by Guthrie.

Some of the plastic used to make the shields was also donated by local vendor, Rimco Plastics Corporation.

Officials say the manufacturing division was able to create a program using their CNC gasket cutting machine that allowed them to lay out and cut approximately 38 shields per run with each taking about 10 minutes.

The Siemens Painted Post facility has pledged to create 3,000 shields for Guthrie. As of April 9, officials say 1,000 shields have already been completed and delivered, and the team continues to work on the remaining 2,000.
